House Project was an exhibition created and curated by Bella Froebel in November 2024. Kirra Niner aided in the execution of the show by managing the musical acts, behind the scenes tasks and of course exhibiting her work. The show consisted of artwork work from 5 female/non-binary emerging artists (bio’s below), musicians who performed original work and an affordable art market.
There were multiple interactive installations, under Dreamscape, 2018 (a work by Bella Froebel) people were encouraged to partake in collaborative creation. We facilitated collage, badge making divine corpse, chalk drawing and more.
In the garage ‘Tent’, 2016 was exhibited. Inside, an old CRT television playing childhood VHS tapes. This space acted as a chill zone, outside of the heat and the more chaotic other areas of the show.
Kirra Niner’s Playground was another interactive exhibit. With large wooden elements able to be crawled through, jumped over or sat underneath; this vibrant installation was both visually impactful and lots of fun.
As a back drop to our performances we hung Riley Magras’ beautiful work. Riley is a skilled painter and a wizard of abstraction, their work was the perfect setting for our magical musicians.
Stella Dunai was our headline act, performing her original music. To watch her sing is a spiritual experience - as she sang 100 people sat perfectly still, hanging on every note. She is truly something special.
House Project 2024 was a huge success, that is testament to the team that made it happen, the energy that people brought to the event and the wonderful artists that exhibited their work. Thank you all!
Riley Magras is a Melbourne based artist whose work bridges nature, mindfulness, and human connection. Originally from the United States and privately trained and Brushworks Studios in Minnesota, Riley moved to Australia, where they have built a unique presence in the local art scene. Inspired by lush rainforests and native wildlife, their paintings combine traditional and digital techniques to capture the textures, colours and essence of the natural world. Through large-scale canvasses and meditative abstract pieces, Riley invites viewers to reconnect with their surroundings and find beauty of option and autonomy that each moment holds.
Borrowing the desire lines from termites, ants and slugs Kirra Niner creates maps of discovery. Representing trajectories of learning, these trails mimic the scribbles of childhood, as they munch through her work.
Using a variety of materials, including paint, wood, felt, and recycled items, the works aim is to play. From this, Kirra has created an imagined playground that wishes to rekindle fragmented memories into the present. This work invites viewers to revisit their childlike tendencies through engaging with their own nostalgic experiences, welcoming back the childish excitement of creativity within play.
Through immersing oneself in these life-sized dioramas, the audience is prompted to peer into a looking glass that unveils the essential nature of childhood. Creating a curious dialogue between youth and adulthood, and how we are to navigate memory, play and imagination in a serious world.
Russell is a Melbourne-based artist, graphic designer, photographer, standup comedian, general dogz body, and certified bogan originally from Queensland. Having studied Photography and Graphic Design, Acting and a Bachelor of Performing Arts majoring in Comedy at COLLARTS. Bold graphic design, The Simpsons, pop culture and niche internet references are at the heart of what she does. Elleia keenly explores both the heinous and disgusting in equal measure to the delightful revelry of bold colour block and using primarily acrylics.
With skills in writing comedy songs, jokes, poems, graphic design, portrait photography and poster making, she is just a little nerd with obsessions and opinions and loves creativity, even more than the natural involuntary method of inhaling oxygen constantly. Elleia creates only what amuses her, the whimsical, the heinous & disgusting, the terribly off-putting & cringe-worthy, the weird and overwhelming, and whatever is funny and dumb, because that's how she likes it.
