Superstyle Tubular Chair is a project which seeks to bridge the gap between the industrial plastic medium and unique, handcrafted furniture. Since its inception plastic has been primarily used for mass production but in a landscape filled with discarded plastic a unique opportunity is presented to makers; harness it. Superstyle Tubular Chair is a found object work that serves as a proof of concept for the low-cost HDPE recycling system designed by Bella Froebel during their Masters of Design. The system begins with a partnership with local cafes who donate their waste (milk bottles & caps) and combines this material with low cost machines (blender, sandwich press & basic moulds) to create a series of chairs. The title of the work references the found metal chair made by Superstyle Tubular Manufacturers, Melbourne which was used as a base for the recycled plastic material.
